Here are some of the "typical" slots:
 
Slot 1 - Space
Slot 2 - Figures
Slot 3 - Letters
Slot 5 - Carriage Return
Slot 22 - Blank
Slot 28 - Blank - Upper Case
Slot 29 - H - Upper Case
Slot 30 - S - Upper Case - Print Only
Slot 35 - Blank
Slot 36 - Blank
Slot 38 - Line Feed
Slot 40 - Line Feed - Print Only
 
Of course, there are many way to configure a Model 28 stunt box and I'm not  
sure how CN did things.  
 
Here are some typical things that hams have done in the past to make their  
machines HF and VHF friendly:
 
Auto Carriage Return
 
Sometimes, you will see your machine continuing to print at the end of a  
line.  With auto carriage return, the carriage will automatically return  after 
it has reached the 74 (this is adjustable) space.   
 
You can add a set of parts to slots 4 and 39 to get auto CR. You also need  a 
"zero" code bar and another mod kit to make auto CR functional but it is very 
 handy on RTTY.
 
Non-Overline
 
Except for RTTY Art, this is a very useful addition to a Model 28.   With 
Non-Overline, a new line turns up whenever the carriage is returned. 
 
Many Model 28 machines can be set up for non-overline by swapping the code  
bars in slots 5 and 38. Very nice and easy. No additional parts and things can  
be swapped back if you want to set things back to the stock settings.
