Considering your situation in life, (5 years to go, some spare time east  
coast oriented) I suggest you follow your heart.
 
I would certainly drive down after making arrangements with him, and  
ascertain the cubic volume involved, weight, and of course final cost to you  etc.
 
At 92 yrs of age, he certainly has been willing to provide the effort to  
make things work for the ham society in general.  And at 92 yrs of age, I  
understand his motivation.  You probably should assume that time is of the  essence. 
Postponing this for a couple of years might not work.
 
Since you seem to enjoy the hobby, and perhaps have a larger energy  quotient 
than someone 92 yrs old, you might wish to enjoy expanding what he  already 
was, and include other aspects of the hobby, and advertise your presence  in 
free on line billboards such as this one.
