[GreenKeys] Storing 5 unit tapes

I'm wondering how do Greenkeyers store their  tapes?
I was taught in telegraphs to wind the tapes in figure of eight fashion  
starting from the front of the tape so that when it's time to transmit 
it, the start  of the tape is always the end you grab first. This was 
alright when the tapes were always transmitted within the hour but when 
they have been stored in this fashion for a long time, they need 
constant attention feeding through the transmitter so they don't twist.
I've found old solder reels to wind the tapes on to be useful but I 
don't use up 200g solder reels very often, I've also cut up plastic 
water pipe but they need bigger edges to hold the tape in position. I've 
constructed a gadget using 2 paper roll brackets off a Siemens M100 
cover and a wooden dowel rod to hold the tapes but I'm after hints what 
to use as the  formers to wind the tape onto.
Any ideas Greenkeys?
