[GreenKeys] Storing 5 unit tapes

I'm wondering how do Greenkeyers store their tapes?
I was taught in telegraphs to wind the tapes in figure of eight fashion
starting from the front of the tape so that when it's time to transmit
it, the start of the tape is always the end you grab first. This was
alright when the tapes were always transmitted within the hour but when
they have been stored in this fashion for a long time, they need
constant attention feeding through the transmitter so they don't twist.
I've found old solder reels to wind the tapes on to be useful but I
don't use up 200g solder reels very often, I've also cut up plastic
water pipe but they need bigger edges to hold the tape in position. I've
constructed a gadget using 2 paper roll brackets off a Siemens M100
cover and a wooden dowel rod to hold the tapes but I'm after hints what
to use as the formers to wind the tape onto.
Any ideas Greenkeys?
