[GreenKeys] half normal phone jack?

I may, in my ignorance, be able to contribute a bit information.

I have doped out some of the jack diagrams from The Green Book and the 
insides of the little jack box I have one of, and this leads me to think that:

"Normalled" means that the jack contacts route the signal through the jack 
to somewhere else when there is no plug in the jack. Inserting the plug 
lifts that connection and routes the signal out the cable you just plugged 
in.  Likely the inserted plug becomes in series with the loop in the case 
of Tip-Ring jacks.

What half of that is, I could only guess.  Maybe the loop goes out but does 
not come back to continue to the original, "normal" location.

I look forward to hearing replies from those who really know.
