I think we all "feel the pain" with Randy.

The fact that the Canadian CFH station still sends 100 wpm Baudot
at 850 HZ shift is a bit of a mystery. I have copied that station
for years, from both coasts, and have noticed problems with
their transmissions at times. A few years ago they added a short
message to their ID tape that said they were cutting back on
operations. The only difference I've noticed is that they now
shut down their carrier at times. They still interrupt the RTTY
traffic at exactly 1 minute before the hour so they can start
sending the WX FAX maps. So, one wonders just how
important the RTTY can be if they stop mid-line. I've attempted to
contact them as an "SWL", but never got any response. I think
we'd all be curious as to how much power they run, types of
antennas, and especially, who their audience for RTTY might
be. Any Greenkeyers in Nova Scotia??

I do agree that Heavymetal and George's ITTY help to keep
the old clunkers running. Ham RTTY is just too erratic and
PC-oriented for me these days. But, all this being said, I
still get excited when I come across an orphan TTY and
get it running. I have also been recently building/restoring
older tube-type TU's, such as the AN/SGC-1, (more fun to
make them work than to use them afterwards...no traffic!).
I'm looking forward to adding a 400 lb., 7-ft. high
AN/FGC-1 RTTY TU to my collection soon (don't tell
my wife...).
