Roy,
A strobe may in fact reveal the errant condition, but may not
help identify the source of the problem. I believe everyone is
on the right track, that being a good cleaning and oiling, something
the Bell System religiously performed, all those years ago.
Also parts wear, bearings, any oxides that may form, or another issue,
is any springs that may have lost their tension, any parts that may
have been bent, or something a s trivial as metal filings on the poles
of the selector magnets can reek havoc. My best guess is to check
tension and freedom of movement for all the code bars, that the bars aren't
sticking, or slow to return, or that any stunt-box contacts, or cam
actuators are not applying any resistance or drag to the 3rd code bar.
Just logical step by step stuff, but we are lucky that we can watch and
repair
these beautiful mechanisms, ..... I hate trouble shooting chips, cause
you can't see the little buggers flip or flop or whatever it is that they do
inside those "little black boxes"!!
Just Bob!
