Hi Jim and gang:
The gear arrived -- thanks!
An update on the M15 restoration and a couple more questions for anyone:
Up to this point I had unit clean and lubed, but had a stripped fiber gear
on the spacing shaft.
I disassembled the spacing shaft assembly to replace the gear, and found
the spacing lever to be gummed-up. Got everything free and lubed, put the
new gear on the shaft, and put it all back together. Turned the machine by
hand and all looked good.
Powered the motor (open-loop) -- at first the carriage spaced continuously
across to the end of the line before it stopped. I could manually activate
return, but it kept spacing across the line. Turned things off and fiddled
a bit with the carriage return reset/latch bars -- one of them seemed to
snap into place a bit differently. Then it seemed to run properly in open
loop.
Hooked it up to a loop (TTY-Connect, of course), and it seems to be almost
working. It is stuck in FIGS mode, although I can see some action when
LTRS and FIGS chars are sent -- it just keeps moving back to FIGS. Any
ideas anyone?
Also, there is an extra space between chars -- anyone?
Other than that, it is printing numbers just fine, with crisp, clean
impressions. And it is responding to carriage return, linefeed, and
bell. Paper and ribbon feed seem ok.
I still need to free up the keyboard, get a few keycaps, and replace the
glass, but it is coming to life after decades of silence.
thanks for any advice,
gil
