So what did Teletype use for solder?
I seem to recall that the pre-breakup Western Electric had a policy
that at least 25% of anything they used would be purchased on the
outside. There were exceptions to the rule but I kind of doubt that
solder was special enough to get an exception.
The whole auction involved four people. The seller (with a bogus
starting price). Two reasonable looking bidders who ran it up to prices
that simply are not rational. Then along comes a one bid sniper who
ends the whole thing and gets the other guys off the hook.
The pattern looks a *lot* like some of the model 33 auctions. Maybe
they are buying the 33's for the solder in them ....
