John,

Yes, you can start to make adjustments by the book. The points of range
test is a great overall test of the health of the printing part of your Model 19.

If you can make up a paper tape that contains a few lines of RY, you can
quickly see where the RY starts to garble. If all things were perfect, the
garble would start at the low point of 20 and the high point of 100. But it is
usually offset, so don't be concerned if it turns out to be
30 and 110, or some similar value. One you find the points where the garble
starts, assuming that your tape is perfect and the tape reader is perfect (a
couple of assumptions, I know), you add the high and low points together and
divide by 2 to get the average. For example, 20 plus 100 equals 120.
divided by 2 is 60 and that is where you should set your range selector to get best
copy.

And you will find that 50 baud signals will be copied within 10 -15 points
of the low end number.

Happy Thanksgiving Holiday and enjoy the Model 19.

73,

Russ
