GE Rick,
I mean absolutely NO disrespect, nor mean to cast aspersions on your
ideas, but the technology
for this has been in use in the USA for years as TDD. I have a TDD
modem, and use my model 28 frequently to communicate with my hearing
impaired friends.....
I see no reason why we, as hams, couldn't use the same modem, as the
speed is immaterial, as is the transmission protocol, as long as it is
in mark/space format. With the proper interface, any TNC or soundcard
mode could be used, as long as the teleprinter (I'm being generic here)
could
be interfaced with the mode, just the same as a computer is able to use
a dialup connection...
I never thought of using it that way, but the idea is seriously intriguing..
