Henry, et all.

Following instructions courtesy of Sgt. Warren Brader, US Army Reserve...

The UGC-74A and UGC-129 cartridges are no longer made... But this
procedure should help...

Get one (or more) of the long ribbon cartridges produced for the
EPSON LQ dot matrix printers. Open the cartridge and set it down on
the same flat surface as described in the next paragraph.

Take a small pocket screwdriver and carefully pry open the UGC-74 /
129 ribbon cartridge. You will find small "legs" that hold the cover
on. Try not to break them. Put the bottom of the cartridge on a flat
working surface with a generous amount of ambient and direct
lighting. Carefully set aside the top of the cartridge.

Using a large tipped pair of stamp collectors tweezers, or something
similar, and remove the endless ribbon from the UGC-129 cartridge.
Thin latex gloves are a good idea. SAVE the special parts that
control the tension near the entrances of the cartridge.

Remove the new endless ribbon from the EPSON cartridge and place it
in the UGC-74 / 129 cartridge and reinstall the tension parts and
carefully put the cover back on the cartridge.

This works procedure well. It takes a bit of patience to get the
ribbon properly "stuffed" in the cartridge but once you have done it
your printer will print for a very long time before it needs to be
done again.

It is easy once you know how!

Regards,
Don
