Just recently I purchased 6 new ribbons for my model 28ASR from an Ebay
Auction. I installed
one tonight but noticed there doesn't seem to be any ink on the ribbon. They
were each wrapped in plastic so I doubt they dried out. Is there some secret
to inking the ribbon ahead of time ?
Thank You

Tom, the solvent for the ink in those ribbons has dried out. Give the
ribbons a good dose of WD-40 and then wrap each ribbon in a plastic bag. After a
week or two of storage the WD-40 will have penetrated the ribbon and you will be
amazed at how well it will print. I have found over the years that I can
repeat this process and re use the ribbon until it falls apart.
