I put up a 30 meter vertical dipole today and its working out fine. The
base of the dipole is about 20 feet above the ground and the top at 68.
It is center fed with RG-8 which is brought away perpendicular to the
dipole. I have made some comparative tests with the 135 foot horizontal
dipole at 65 feet and the vertical is quieter and signals are stronger
on the vertical. We will have to see how it works out on transmit.
I will have a basic station up and operating tomorrow afternoon (Friday)
running about 100 watts output. I will be transmitting a series of
"CQ's" and test messages and would appreciate any signal reports. I
will start with 10.127000 mhz Mark since that seems to be the frequency
that will allow the largest number of people to listen in and will avoid
a conflict with the Chatter Net on 10.137 Mhz. If there is a consensus
to use another frequency among the group, I am open to suggestions.
It will be next week before I have WRU capability set up so that you can
try your hand at raising my station.
I have continued to monitor 40 meters 7.083 Mhz and it sounds good as an
alternate frequency in case propagation on 10 Mhz doesn't work out for
us.
If anyone else has their station set up, please give me a call on "The
Irv Hoff, W6FFC Memorial Autostart Net" aka "HoffNet" on 10.127000 Mhz
Mark.
