Hi Tom,
Yes, Irv was quite a guy. Just to show you the kind of guy he was, let
me offer the following true story. I was living in Charlotte, NC and
Irv was based out of Los Altos Hill, CA, near San Francisco. I was
having some trouble with my RTTY station and had been unable to get
things working properly. When Irv heard about it, he figured out a way
to get on a flight from San Francisco to Atlanta and then on to
Charlotte, NC as captain (he flew for United Airlines) just so he could
come out to Charlotte and help me out. When he got there, he stayed up
the entire night working with me on the station until we got it working
! He left at 8:00 the next morning to fly back to San Francisco. He just
loved helping others out and literally lived and breathed RTTY.
I appreciate you support of calling our net, "the Irv Hoff, W6FFC
Memorial Autostart Net". I think Irv would be pleased. He passed away
about five years ago in his fifties.
Best regards -- Roy Norris, K4EEG
