I was told by somebody that the Teletype Corp. paper archives went to
AT&T Archives. Whereas former Teletype employees wound up under Lucent
for pension purposes; and Lucent at one time was said to be developing
a museum that would include Teletype stuff. (Probably went away when
the fortunes of the business went downhill.)

The Chicago Historical Society as about 20 feet of Sterling Morton papers.
He was head of Teletype prior to the Western Electric purchase. After
that he went back to the family salt business. Although he was in the
position at Teletype representing the Morton financial interests he seems
to have had some aptitude for the mechanical end of things, as his name
appears on some patents.

Also in Chicago you can visit Tom Kleinschmidt.

The type font usually associated with Teletype was called "Murray style
characters" in the catalogs. I assume but don't know for sure that this
comes from Donald Murray, the Englishman who is responsible for the Murray
code and who did a lot of work under contract to Western Union. (What
we usually call Baudot code is actually Murray's code; Baudot's code was
rather different, although both were 5-level codes.)

The font used on Model 28s is the same as was used earlier on Model 15s
and I assume on Model 12s. So it goes back a long way. Walt Zenner who
went to work for Teletype in 1930 is still living at the age of 100; but
hardly anyone else from the old days is still around.
