Hello all, 

After opening the presents and talking to friends and family, I went to the 
Heathkit SB-101, plugged in the foot switch and microphone cable that I made, 
warmed up the radio, turned on the computer, loaded up MMTTY, hit the foot 
switch and the button on MMTTY that sends out my call sign, and instantly, some 
ham had the nerve to come back and say hi!  I just about fell out of my chair.  
It works!  What do I do now?  My tongue got tied; my fingers got tied. I could 
not remember my call sign, so I just typed: Beginner here, have mercy, it is 
my first contact.  And of course like all of you who have helped me during the 
past month, he was patient and kept coming back and encouraging me to keep 
going.  It was great!  So, the glass screen is up and running, but now, and 
soon, the real thing. Thanks to all, my heavy metal typing machines are clean, 
tight and oiled and just itching to do what they were designed to do. Thanks to 
all for being patient and teaching a willing student.
