   In military stations there was red-black color separation of encrypted and cleartext loop circuits.  Maybe Jack saw something red
pulled from that environment.

That would be a really strange setup. The world that I live in seems to
have pretty much standardized on red positive / black negative. I would
think that you would get in trouble reversing something like that.
