In review past amateur RTTY activities, one should not overlook the fact that a large number of hams were on RTTY in a very
serious way back in the 60s-70s within the MARS program. I was one, first getting on in 1968 and putting in many thousands of hours
on 100 WPM RTTY. (I built two ST-6 units from scratch, which I still have...) I shoe-horned an entire HF RTTY station, with Model
28 ASR plus a Kleinschmidt typing reperf and TD, and a Mite ASR as well, into my college dorm room at Cornell. Ran lots of
schedules with Iceland, California and other areas as part of the Navy Marine Corps MARS worldwide TTY message relay system.
