Subject: [GreenKeys] 28 ASR find
> I thought I would share a story of a recent find of a model 28 ASR.
Several weeks back while admiring the one a ham had in town he thought were
there might be another in somebody's garage. This past Saturday we ventured
over to the lady that had the unit and other than the dust and dirt that had
accumulated it looked operational. The problem was it was buried in her
garage under lumber and since Anchorage is still in the throes of winter
with about five of snow in her yard and an RV blocking the garage there was
no way this thing was moving until June at the earliest. Being some what
disappointed my friend Bob mentioned another late ham who had a model 28 but
his house had been sold over a year ago and there was a rumor this thing
might still be left in the garage. The house was about 50 miles a way and no
one knew the name of the new owners to call and verify. Well a crude map
with an address was drawn up and I decided to take my fiance for an
afternoon drive on Sunday. I arrived at the home and knocked on the door and
was greeting lady who lived there and explained what I was looking for and
she motioned me to the backyard to talk to her husband. I asked him if by
chance there was an old teletype machine in his garage and he said----- yes
do you want it.
> In no time I backed the Jeep Grand Cherokee up to the door and we gently
laid the machine on it's side and in it went. I also scored a box with 8
rolls of paper and to top it off 12 service manuals to boot. I thanked the
owner and compensated him with some $$$ for helping me load it and to keep
the good karma in check. I was on cloud nine all the way home and after some
light cleaning with the air gun and oiling the proper point under the
direction of my friend Bob who has the same unit it came to life. This unit
by the way has 3 speeds
> 60, 67 and 100 and also has a second reperf. which is not hooked up at
this time but perhaps I can find a use for it.
