Hi. I just picked up an AN/GRC-122B RTTY set on Saturday. This set consists of
two RT-834/GRC-106 transceivers, one AM-3349/GRC-106 PA, an MD-522A/GRC modem,
and a whole bunch of other stuff, all mounted in an S-250 shelter. Most of the
important stuff is present, but unfortunatly, all of the meters and most of
the knobs were removed before the unit was released. I guess this was done out
of fear of those nasty radioactive meters and knobs, although I don't think
any of the knobs and meters in this system contained radioactive stuff. Sigh.
Anyway, I am now looking for the meters for the following parts:
RT-834/GRC-106 (x2)
AM-3349/GRC-106 (3 meters)
MD-522A/GRC
PP-4763A (2 meters)
SWR meter ME-165/G
Power distribution panel SB-3358/GRC (2 meters)
Also, I need all of the knobs except for the frequency select knobs for two
transceivers, the PA, and the modem. I think that Fair Radio should have the
two crank knobs for the PA, but I didn't see the regular "GRC" knobs on their
page. Does anybody know of a good source for generic "GRC" knobs?
I'm also short one crank for the TT-98 teletypes.
My unit is missing the fuel-burning heater, but I may not bother to replace
that. The electric heater is present, and an RV-type air conditioner has been
mounted in the roof. A dataplate on the door states that my unit was modified
with MK-2488. There's one interconnecting box J-4024/U installed, and a rack
that looks like it could hold a second one, with some cables dangling behind
it. Am I missing a second J-4024/U, or is this space just reserved for adding
another one for special purposes (i.e., do I need to install another one for
regular simplex RTTY use?).
I don't have all of the manuals for this system yet, so I'm still figuring out
what's missing and what's not.
So, what's the intended purpose for those little safety flags that are part of
the system?
I'm looking forward to getting this system up and running, so I can use it on
the Clatternet on Saturdays. I plan to mount the shelter on my HMMWV once I
get the parts I need to install it (a mounting frame, some brackets, and
heavier rear shocks and springs). I think I'll need to secure the loose wires
for the meters in the SB-3358 before I can apply power to the shelter. I
haven't used the GRC-106 before, and I assume that I'll need to replace the
meters before I power it up so that I can tune it up properly.
I have the regular GRC-106 manuals on CD, and printed -20, -20P and -34
manuals for the GRC-122/142 system. I think there are some other manuals that
I'll want to get my hands on, but I haven't taken stock of that stuff yet.
Oh, the exterior door latch handle on the smaller "escape" door is broken on
my shelter. That's no big deal, but if anybody happens to have a replacement
lying around, please let me know.
In case I can't find the correct meters, I'd appreciate any specifications
that would help me kludge in replacements. I've seen pictures on a web site
somewhere for some of the meters I need to replace, but not all of them.
Thanks in advance for any information, leads on parts, etc.!
