[GreenKeys] Re: Active RTTY Frequencies

Hello Steve,

I went on an active monitoring campaign in summer 2002 to put together a list of every active Baudot RTTY source I could find and personally copy on the HF bands. George was kind enough to post that list on the RTTY.COM website for all to access and use. Go to:

http://www.rtty.com/rtty_list.htm

The attrition rate for Baudot stations dropping off the air is fairly low now since most who really wanted to leave did so years ago. As such most of the stations on this list are still up and running, plus-or-minus propogation.

Another good source of leads is the logs section of the monthly newsletter of the Worldwide Utility News (WUN). The WUN club is a group of SWL's and hams who specialize in listening to utility stations of all types on HF. Here is the link for loggings that listeners posted in the latest (October) newsletter.

http://www.wunclub.com/newsletter/v09/n10/logs.html

Sure enough, there are 59 Baudot RTTY catches on 46 discrete frequencies listed for October alone. These loggings are from all over the world so it is not likely that one in North America could catch them all, but certainly some can be received even with modest equipment.

There is still a very small amount of RTTY press on HF. Last time I checked the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) was still on, in English, with fair and balanced journalism from North Korea. Here is a rather dated link for RTTY press frequencies. It is not likely that many of these stations are still active on a daily basis, but it is definately worth the few seconds it takes to spin the dial and check.

I have the frequency list posted on the RTTY.COM site available in Excel spreadsheet format if you or anybody else on the list would like to have a copy for sorting or starting your own database.

Good printing!

Subject: [GreenKeys] Active RTTY Frequencies?

Group,
please pardon another "newbie" question: Aside from
some amateur RTTY, are there any commercial or
government (particularly weather) services that still
broadcast Baudot on HF frequencies?

Thanks -
Steve
