I posted this to the Telephone Collectors list server but figure that it 
may be of some interest to a few folks here too:

This is not good:

I just attempted to order BSP 662-520-500 from the CIC.  I got an email 
back saying that they were unable to fill the order.  I called the 
number given and was told that it was one of the masters that was 
"destroyed" and no longer available.  I asked how they determined what 
was to be destroyed and her reply was "anything they haven't made in a 
while."

I did ask if she could find someone who could tell me what the 
disposition of the documents was and that it would be a shame that they 
were lost to history.  My suggestion was that the obsolete documents be 
turned over to the Pioneers museum in Seattle or a similar group who 
could continue to provide copies as a fund raising method.

I did jokingly mention that us collectors are probably what is keeping 
the CIC going to which she replied that someone noted that there were a 
lot of recent orders for stuff that hasn't been made in years that no 
one can explain.

Hopefully, she will get back to me with some better news.
