What's really mystifying is that the seller will have
to pay Ebay based upon the starting price. If he
started at $1.00 at least he'd not have to give
Ebay a fortune. I somehow think this character isn't
serious (early April's Fool joke?).
For everyone's edification:
The UGC-74(*) is a neat machine, but it has some
odd problems, including a tendency for the rubber
rollers below the platen to "melt" and for the
electroilytic caps on the power supply board
to short out. And, of course, the 99 lbs. weight
takes it out of the "laptop" category.
The "B" and "C" versions of the machine have a
dot-matrix printer which uses a ribbon cartridge
which no one has yet been able to find. The "A"
version uses a standard TTY ribbon, but the print
quality is poor due to the way the hammer hits the
ribbon against the paper with the actual type
behind the paper.
You tell me if it's worth $19,000 (or $25).
