I agree, a CRT doesn't hack it at all for copying RTTY One has to HEAR
the typing and CR/LF. It doesn't even work for proper copying of fax,
which, to be done correctly, needs the sound of the wire stylus
scratching and sparking on the sensitive paper, and the great odor of
ozone and the sensitized paper being turned into a proper wx map. The
rythymic "bip" of the sync pulse as the drum completes each revolution
is a necessary part of copying REAL fax wx (LOL). If one can sit in a
radio shack and hear oneself think, then it isn't a real radio shack!!!!!!
An absolute MINIMUM of 4 R390's or 1051's, (MANY more is preferable) all
with the speakers turned up to catch calls is necessary. Of course,
since there isn't any 500KHz activity these days, one misses the calls
in the background, along with the other cw freqs, the clacking of a
"mill" as someone (maybe you) was copying press bcsts, and some voice
(not really perfectly tuned, with that hint of Donald Duck, which was
just "normal activity" in a Navy radio shack. Anything less is Q U I E T
and a crime against "the natural order of things" --hi--
