I read the materials George mentions in his post last night and they are
truly extraordinary (available at: www.nasdaw.org)
The petition and accompanying suggested rules, forms, schedules, and
instructions for filling the forms out are as professional a submission as
I have ever seen. They would make a $750/hr communications lawyer proud!
He began by conducting almost two years of tests under an FCC experimental
license to demonstrate the potential of widecast RTTY. He compiled surveys
of listeners, researched the FCC rules, and devised a strategy that has a
good chance of success. He has worked closely with the FCC in developing
the documents to insure they will have the best chance of receiving a
receptive ear at the FCC.
Please take the time to at least read the Petition itself as it spells out
the reason and purpose for the Widecast Service which not only will provide
a source of printable news which no other service now provides, but also
will be a valuable component in the Homeland Securtiy network for
widecasting security alerts and advisories of the Department of Homeland
Security. As a non commercial service it represents the best sense and
spirit of volunteerism in support of our nation's efforts to involve all of
our citizens in its efforts to insure the security of our country.
George Hutchison has done the community of teletype enthusiast a tremendous
service in taking the long and painstaking actions required to return
broadcast RTTY to the airwaves. I think it is important to note that he
has done this almost singlehandedly with hundreds of hours of his personal
time.
On behalf of all of us RTTY nuts, "Thanks, George" !
Best regards -- Roy Norris, K4EEG

I am a Christian. That means I have accepted Jesus as the Son of God and my
Savior; that I believe he died on the cross to atone for the sins of
mankind and my sins; and, that on the third day after his crucifixion, God
raised Him from the dead and after appearing to many, He ascended to
Heaven; that through belief in Him, our sins are forgiven. As a result,
when I die, I believe I will also go to Heaven despite my sins in life. I
am a Christian and through the Grace of God and the atonement of his Son
and my Savior, Jesus, I have enjoyed a blessed life by any measure. You
can have this as well. If you would like to learn more, read "More than a
Carpenter" by Josh McDowell.
