Thanks list for responding about the asbestos fiber gears. England gear
makers now boast that there fiber gears are now asbestos free. Asbestos
fibers are/were used on the gears in the automatic transmission and timing.
However Canada, India, Pakistan, Iran, etc., gears makers continue to
manufacture molded asbestos fiber gears for car mechanics.
The only purpose for having a fiber gear in a drive chain is for it ability
to be the weak link. Like a fuse it well be the first to breakdown under
stress. I replaced many of them but never the steel pinion gear.
Has anyone ever heard what type of material is used making the felt
friction washer and oil wick used on the main shaft? Also the factory
installed insulated electric wiring, which looks like it fits the NEC rules
for apparatus wiring.
Thanks
