Back in about 74 or so when i went thru TTY school for Southwestern Bell
they handed out a "principles of operation for the model 28 tty". I
seem to have seen that recently when going thru my collection of tty
manuals etc. It was a photocopy of course in 8 1/2 by 11 format. Now i
gotta dig thru it all again to find it. Hmmmmmm. Did it go to the
storage shed or the file cabinets?????? If and when i find it i'd be
willing to make copies of it for those who would be interested. Postage
and copy costs only.

One of the things they showed us how to do was operate the main shaft by
hand (tty tool provided) and setup a character on the codebar selecting
frame.
Then watch the operation of the clutches and everything else as it
progressed thru the cycle. Nice to know how it proceeds thru this
operation cause as Jack mentioned, timing is quite important and helps
in adjusting the machine so it runs quietly and smoothly.

When i picked up this WU 28 a couple months back it quickly became
apparent that it was not adjusted properly. When shifting from Figs to
Ltrs or the other way around it made a noise that sounded like a couple
of forks striking each other. I replaced it with my original 28 that i
hadn't seen for about 12 years (was setting out in desert) which is a
much smoother running machine. If you get around these things a lot
eventually you'll be able to hear malfunctions/misadjustments.

Even tho my printer runs smoothly now i still like to open the lid and
listen to the thing run. Rhythm, smell and and and and and.......
