So I just picked up another one... :-)
This is a complete 28RO without a case. It came in a nice little
chassis with a handle on each side, and (pleasantly) it is almost
portable!
The unit in question appears to work. The claim is it only has about
50-100 hours on it. But... it's been sitting in storage for 20 years,
so it has colleced some dust here and there, which of course has
turned into that wonderful amalgamation of dust + grease...
What is the recommended way to cleaning a Model 28 Typing Unit?
I have heard crazy stories about people running these through their
dishwasher, and other stories about dipping the whole thing into a
solvent bath. One guy suggested WD-40. None of these sound sensible.
BTW, what is the recommended oil for these machines?
Is "3-in-1" okay, or does it need something heavier, or with
fewer solvents? I know I've seen discussions about this, so
I apologize for asking a FAQ (which, incidentally, seems to
exist nowhere on the Web).
Please advise.
Best regards,
