I used to print Irv Hoff and his buddy K8DKC on saturday mornings when i
could get on the air. They were always on 20 meters and both had good
signals into western Kansas. Irv's been gone for a number of years.
DOn't know about Keith. They used to have some hellacious arguments.
Finally one of them wouldn't talk to the other one again. Irv was a
pilot for united i think and one of his discussions was about how he
would plot his course while flying. Had some gimmick that made it
easier. Can't explain the gist of it now.

When i finally got on the air in the early 70's, Irv moved his Tx down
to the freq i was working on and gave me a call. Wanted to see what i
was about and what my knowledge was. No threat to that guy i assure
you.

Never had another qso with him. I was using an ST-6 with UT-4 interface
along with a Drake R4-B and T-4X and a 28ASR with typing reperf and 3
speeed gear shifts on both the printer and reperf. TD was set for
100Wpm but the UT-4 slowed it down after the 80 character buffer was
full. Great radios for Rtty. Course i had to put a fan over the PA
cage to keep the finals in it but then ran it at 100W even for all my
pix transmissions.
