I'm sure you have received many responses by now .
All I can add is that he will have to recoat the carriage return cylinder with teflon and to block the air escape hole during the process unless someone has new parts.
A rare case if 33/35 tty units experience garbling and all the mechanics look ok is to replace the filter capacitor on the selector magnet card. They tend to deteriote and the current drops below 20 ma..

Dear Jan,

I am on the road to the museum. I wil answer your questions and try 
to help you out when I get there. It is a 2,100 mile trip so be 
patient. As far as repairing plastic the best bonder is Plastix by 
LOCTITE. It comes in a blister pack with a liquid activator and a 
tube with the bonding agent. It is really good. Works on all 
plastics. It is distributed by Manco, Inc. URL is
