Keep in mind the actual selector magnet in the 32/33 is 500 MA, not 20 or 60
ma.
The SMD converts the bipolar 20 ma or unipolar 20 or 60 ma loop to the 500
ma.

Here are the gear numbers: (all assume 60 Hz operation)

Motor Follower
181411 181417 60 wpm
181411 181419 66 wpm
186462 186460 68.2 wpm
181411 184158 75 wpm
186539 186538 75 wpm
181411 181420 100 wpm

You will recall I mentioned that the 32 was most likely a TELEX
machine which uses line current in both directions for connection
functions. If the machine was NOT a TELEX it may have used a 20 ma
local selector circuit served by a Selector Magnet Driver (SMD) Card.
Most 33s, 35s, 38s, and 37s were designed this way. Datasets (early
modems) were used to convert FSK tones to operate the SMD card and
thus the selector.
