Ugh! The Model 35 cabinet was one of the most complicated things of
that sort ever designed. Dozens of little parts here and there.
The designer of the Model 32-33-35 cabinets was the Henry Dreyfuss firm,
which did all the industrial design for the Bell System. Hence the
similarity in profile between these Teletype products and the "500"
type telephone, for which the Dreyfuss firm was famous.
If someone wanted to do a cosmetic conversion of a 28 he should have
done an original design of his own.
It could be worse. There was an article in Western Union Technical Review
by an industrial designer. It included a picture of his concept for a
circa 1960 repackaging of the components of a Model 19. I don't imagine
it ever got beyond the cardboard model stage.
