Hi guys..
Another former Western Union Field Service Tech.. Bruce Lane, where were
you??
And George, I may have known you as I was assigned to inside Seattle
twice..!! My (outside) Field Service Tech time was at Santa Ana, Calif.,
from 1980 till just before close down in October, 1988... when I
retired!!!..
As to a use for the 32 Telex's, I looked at the send and receive frequencies
of a F1-F2 TLA (modem) and it looked a lot like the send side of a TDD
(Teletype for the Deaf). As I remember, one side was some 2k or so, the
other side about 1k or so cps..
Later on I was serving in a situation where I had to call people, and I 'd
occasionally dial into and get a TDD or a FAX! The FAX had sync pulses but
I listened to the Answer Back of the TDD's and they sounded an awful lot
like a Telex on the line!!
In these days of lap top TDD's with little screens, they still sound awfully
compatible...!!
Just a thought..
