Well it doesn't seem to be in any of the old telegraph books that I have,
but I'm sure I've read it in some old book(s). Amongst all the numbered
messages, 30 is the signal meaning "end of work". You often see it at the
end of a column in a magazine.
Perhaps of some interest is that in amateur radio and in radio telegraphy
in general we use the operating signal SK to mean end of work. SK in
International Morse is in fact the same as 30 in American Morse.
3 American Morse = ..._. and 0 American Morse is a looooong dash.
That was one of the problems with American Morse, having dashes of
different length. Thus a railroad bridge inspector's report beginning
with "Foundation under bridge #38..." was rendered as "Found a lion under
bridge #38..."
