Hello,

I've recently acquired the subject item and it has a problem
or two ... but first, the specifics:

The ID plate inside the unit indicates that it is indeed an M43
model number 4350AAA. This model is an 8 level unit and
supports both manual and automatic modes (there were other
models: 4250AAA was an auto/manual 5 level unit, 4350AAC
was an auto only 8 level, and the 4350AAB was a manual
only 8 level unit). It is equipped with a standard EIA RS-232C
interface, supports 110 and 300 baud, and can run in local
mode.

The reader on this thing seems to work fine ...I just threw a
null-modem cable on it and connected it to my laptop. I fired
up good old Procomm+ and was able to read a couple of
s-record tapes to the screen with no problem (configured
Procomm for even parity, 7 bit, 2 stop bits).

The punch is another matter however. Bit 1 and bit 5 never
punch. Bit 4 always punches ...and when I say always I mean
even when just advancing the tape or running in local mode.
I can see the pin punching away whenever the motor runs.

I know very little about this thing ... but I am assuming that
the problem is likely mechanical and not associated with the
controller card within (no real clue though).

With that, would anyone happen to have the service/tech
manual for this thing? I have a "How to operate" and an
"Installation and routine service" guide ...but not a detailed
service manual (like with my asr-33).

Also, any suggestions as to how to approach getting this
thing fully operational would be most welcome. Thanks!

Best regards,

Scott
