I thought I remembered that the usual test message was

THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG'S BACK

and that the "'S BACK" was only put in to increase the line length to a
full line. Hovever, now that I count up that's only 50 characters. I
thought the teleprinter line length was 69. Is my memory failing?

BTW I replied to Chuck's message rather than the following one from
Eldon P. Laffoon, which exemplifies why I preferred the reflector to
work as it used to, like a newsgroup. A Reply to All would have left  me
deleting so many unwanted entries it doesn't bear thinking about.
