I know it's a bit simple, but in making a transition from real machines (300 VDC 60 MA) to RS-232 and WINTEL boxes, what is available out there in terms of software to go between the OS and the UART to set up the uart oat the right baud rate, info bits, etc and (now the real part) perform the maping on the fly between Baudout (Murray) and ASCII.

Some time back I wrote ttysim in order to interface a GRiD PC to the
teletype circuits my TSC-15 radio shelter. You can download it at:
http://www.hypertools.com
You'll find it toward the bottom of the page, in the list of links.

The .ZIP package contains the PC executable, plus all source code,
plus a batch file which will assemble & link the code. The old GRiD ran
DOS, but TTYSIM seems to do OK running in a DOS window under most
windoze OSes (no, I have not tried XP...).

Ttysim.exe is written in PC assembly language - if you want to change
it then you'll need an assembler & a linker. Both of these are lately
available for free download from microsoft.com
