Hi list members,

I'm sort-of new to RTTY, and sort-of not. I used to use a
Kantronics "The Interface" to read press feeds off of
shortwave back in the early 1980's with an Atari computer,
but now that I'm an amateur operator (licensed 1991) I
would like to apply some of what I've learned. I've used
the MFJ-1278 to make some RTTY contacts, and I
am expanding to see what else there is to life.

I recently purchased a metal "conex" building complete
with GRC-106A transceiver and all RTTY "machines"
(that's right, real METAL RTTY machines!) in an attempt
to see what REAL RTTY is like. Then I found out the
difficulties associated with using military equipment on
the ham bands....850Hz only shift, USB only, etc.

So- I bought a Dovetron MPC-1000T II off a guy on
E-bay, and am looking to:

First: get it working with my PC and Yaesu FT-847
in the house to learn how to properly operate it and
to make sure it's in working condition. Will mess with
it a few months like this.

Second: In a few months, remove the military TU and
replace it with the Dovetron interfacing all the mechanical
stuff with it.

I have no manual, just the Dovetron. My immediate
questions are:

1. What connections and interface considerations are there
between the Dovetron and the PC?

2. What connections and interface considerations are there
between the Dovetron and the Yaesu FT-847?

Eventually, I will try to get to moving the Dovetron into
the Conex and integrating it there, but that's several
months (years?) off.

Also- if anyone has any tips about where to set the
controls for best transmitting/receiving that would be
much appreciated!

Thanks, -Web Williams, new list member.
