The "NorthWest Signal Corps" proudly presents the First Annual:
MILITARY RADIO FIELD DAY AND DISPLAY
Who? A loosely affiliated group of Ham Radio operators determined on
preserving the equipment and the finer points of military communications
and
gear!
What? An "in the field" set-up outing of military radios and
assorted/associated gear.
Why? A good excuse to set-up, operate and display millitary radio gear
from the last
60+ years! Besides, you can come up and take part in a well developed
ARRL
Field Day site. Two-for-one! 4th annaul for them and it is alot of fun
too!
Where? 4H Camp in West Salem, Oregon. At the Gazeebo site, just a short
walk
from the MidValley Field Day site (Horse camp). The camp is gorgeous and
there is lots of room to hike around in.
When? Saturday and Sunday, 22nd and 23rd of June 2002. Folks will be
getting
there and setting up from Friday the 21st at Noon. The Shindig will
mostly
be Saturday the 22nd with an "All you can keep down" buffet Saturday
evening.
How? Get in your car, on your motorcycle or bike, in your good combat
boots or
flap your arms real hard and come on up! The map is attached! Follow the
signs
to the ARRL Field Day then look for signs for the Military Radio Display.
You are welcome to camp overnight Friday night the 21st and/or Saturday
night the 22nd.
The Gazeebo site offers cover, toilet, kitchenette, 120 VAC and various
pests. There is a
fire pit, so bring wood and S'mores fixins. Bring uniforms, sleeping
bags, cots, etc. There
will be minimal room for RVs at the actual site so please check with me
ahead of time.
There will be ample parking down the hill from the site for cars.
Some of the fine gear to see and use will (hopefully) include: GRC-106,
PRC-6, PRC-10,
PRC-25, PRC-47, PRC-74, PRC-77, PRT-4/PRR-9, TRC-75, Field Phones, Remote
Equipment, Teletypes, Mine Detectors, Uniforms and accessories, and many
many more
cool, strange, bizzare and unexpected Greenthings.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime festivity that you will be very sad you
missed if you don't come up!
Well, it may not be that great, but it will be fun. Tell, invite or drag
family and friends along!
Talk-in will be 51MHz FM, 150Hz tone. We will also monitor the 145.29 MHz
repeater if
we have to! RTTY ClatterNet will be Saturday morning at about 09:30 PST
on 10.137 USB
850 Hz MARK 1575 Hz (Mark Low) SPACE 2425 Hz (AKA Military shift and
mode)
This mode and frequency will be monitored all day, so give us a call if
you can't attend! There
will also be the option of AM and SSB phone (Frequencies TBA) and there
will likely be a
code key available for the brave-of-heart.
