To all the great Greenkeyers:
I am trying to obtain a model 28 ASR unit (I forget what the exact
designator is, but it is the model 28 in the long case with the
Perforator, TD, and the space for a reperf on the left hand side.
This is the unit which I used while in Navy service, and the one which I
attended TTY repair school to be able to beat the components into
submission on a regular basis. I divided my time between being a high
speed CW op, a Facilities Controller, and various sundry Crypto duties
which we will not discuss in this email.
I recently moved into the 21st century, bought my first ricebox after 35
years of boatanchor dreams, and was pleasantly suprised to find that
RATT (sorry guys, I know amateur radio uses RTTY, but I like to call it
what we called it in the military) was built into my ICOM IC-746PRO.
Even though the max shift is 425 cycles, and it doesn't have the ability
to go the max 850 (I do love the sound of wide shift), it is better than
not operating RTTY.
I do not want to use a computer, because that kind of takes the realism
out of the whole exercise, and mechanical greenkeys, and the good sound
of 60WPM has been long missed. (I wouldn't mind, however, having the
gearsets for 75 and 100 ;-)
If there is anyone within reasonable driving distance of Upper Darby, PA
(Just outside of Philly) who would have such a unit for
sale/swap/barter/gimme ..hi..(Note: since I have had 8 spinal surgeries,
the less travel which I have to do to pick the unit up is appreciated. I
can, however, get help in moving the unit in and out of the pickup I
will rent for the purpose ;-)
I would appreciate hearing from said person or persons. I want to get on
the air in this mode SAP.
If you happen to have one which is trying to escape, or you find surplus
to your needs, please let me know, either at the email addy in this
message or at my ARRL email box ([email protected]).
73 es tnx for any leads which you might have on obtaining a unit.
