B4 you do all this tho, be sure and remove the platen. If you don't se
la vie! Not good treatment for these.

FAA tech back in the 70s' said they just stuck them in a big tub and
sprayed them with hot water. Washed everything down, let it dry and
then go lube all the moving parts places, felts especially. Too clean a
machine and it'll bind up on ya. We had a particular oil that was
recommended but i don't remember any more what it was.

Good clean bond paper was used for cleaning the contacts. Don't forget
the flapper portion of the selector magnets. That area gets wet or
sticky it can cause problems as well. Clutches get gummed up and either
stick or with to much lube will slip. That usually causes double
printing of a character or double spacing.

Good clean well lube'd machine inside the cabinet will run almost
noiselessly for hours.

One thing about wireline service which was utilized by the radio
stations for news and weather was that they didn't always pull the news
or weather off and it would jam up under the glass. The printer would
have a feast. Never failed, get a trouble call 60 miles away at 4 or
10pm on Friday saying they couldn't read the print. Or the machine was
garbling. Yeah right..... It was, it had a mouthfull!
