[GreenKeys] my 28ASR

Don, et al,

That "green" WU electrical service unit was quite common. Sometime in the
70/80's Western Union released an entire warehouse of 28ASR's in Allentown,
PA. (Fellow Long Islander Billy Joel wrote a sing about Allentown right
after WU closed down...[!]) Hams picked up the 28's by the truckload. I was
able to obtain one of them many years later after a local ham had passed
away. His wife sold off most of his stuff but "nobody wanted that piece of
junk". Of course, my reputation proceeds me and someone called me and asked
if I wanted it. I took a long ride to Allentown and grabbed the machine
along with 6 cases of brand new paper rolls (still have some left). The
previous owner had installed a variable speed electronic motor control using
a modified governed motor. I removed that and put back the original motor
(found in the base of the machine). I also poked around and rewired the
machine for "ham use", bypassing the WU ESU. Someone on Greenkeys does have
the schemetaic for that ESU, just con't remember who it was. I also have a
28RO with the same ESU.
