In response to PDWills I have created a program called "BaudShim" that 
slips underneath most communications programs, probably HeavyMetal as
well.  It allows you to play with baud rates and dittle the RTS and DTR
lines to test your terminal unit (TU). It was developed as a "test tool" 
to calibrate mechanical teletype machines and test various modifications 
of Hal ST-6 TU's to determine RTS/DTR function. Baud rates can be changed
in 0.1 baud increments.

It's in beta release and one of it's biggest flaws is that if you try to 
change the baud rate while data is being "received" it may lock up your 
machine causing a re-boot. The "flaw" occurs because your terminal 
program may service hardware interrupts while you are trying to change 
the baud rate.  The work-around is to pause received or transmitted data 
while baud rates are being adjusted.  A fix is in work.
