Hello TTY'ers,
My thanks and appreciation to all the List members who were so forthcoming
with information on my recently-acquired FRXD. Here's an update and progress
report, assuming there's some interest here.
The gentleman who owned it left a power supply and switching arrangement to
control the solenoids in the FRXD, which has assisted in bringing it to life.
He also left some scribbled schematics which I have yet to decipher, but
among his notes was one page from an article in CQ in 1964 which describes it
in greater detail and discusses the model variations. It's from Byron
Kretzman's column "RTTY" and includes a bare bones schematic diagram.
So as of now it receives, it prints, it reperfs and then transmits, all just
as it should, and the "climbing monkey" goes right up to the punch too. It
was clearly intended to be remotely controlled, and I wonder what kind of
supervisory or control unit it was attached to.
The Kretzman CQ article includes a little picture of the unit with cover, and
I dare to ask if anyone on the list has a spare or a lead on acquiring a
cover for this one. I'm certain it wasn't left at the SK's house as his
family had carefully gathered together all the Teletypes and tidbits prior to
my arrival. So I'd like to find a proper cover for it if possible and will
appreciate any leads. Any ideas?
Thanks again,
