Gentlemen,
I recently acquired my first TTY machine, a tabletop 28KSR with ESU. My
ultimate purpose is to get it onto amateur RTTY.
If I may ask the collective, I have a few questions. Since there's no TTY
loop connected, when powered up it runs open as expected. The only thing I
think might be strange is that the "Keyboard Lock" bounces up and down in
time with the cycling of the machine. The other keys are locked out. If I
hold down the "Keyboard Unlock" then the other keys feel normal. I've seen
these machines before, but I don't recall if this is normal. Is it
symptomatic of not having a TTY loop connected?
I have little information or knowledge of the ESU. I have no pictures of one,
but I have some schematics I downloaded. So I'm trying to figure out just
what's here. There's a power switch, a bell with a broken clapper, a large
relay thing with several coils, a power supply (transformer, selenium
rectifiers and capacitor) and a panel with a rheostat mounted on it. Oh,
there's a filter box underneath the chassis from which the external wires
emerge: power cord, a cord with a phone plug on it (loop connector?) and a
mysterious additonal wire, and what must be a ground wire. From the above
information, can you guys identify what all I have here and whether it's of
use to me given my intended purpose?
Oh, one last thing, is it necessary to remove the space bar via the screws
underneath, to remove the gray plastic piece which holds the keys?
Thanks for the bandwidth and your patience.
