I have not heard who all is coming to the meeting on Nov 14, but I need to
bring up a couple of items to discuss. If you know you will not be able to
make the meeting, you might want to voice your opinion here before the 14th.
First, we need to address sending a donation to QSL.net for hosting our
email reflector. I propose we pass the hat at the meeting and whatever we
can collect, to send in as a donation to QSL.net. I have been in contact
with the new owner, Scott Neader, KA9FOX, and he suggests $25.00 a year
donation, but will accept whatever we send him. He did say the month of
October he only received $17.00 in donations for the QSL.net users. To this
point, Scott has not made any plea for donations. We have not donated any
money for the reflector use since we first created the reflector. If you did
not know Scott also hosts the QTH.com pages as well.
Second, what does the group think of the Great River DX Club have its own
web page? I currently have a lot of available space on my personal web page
hosting plan and I can add another domain name to it. My thoughts are to
have a blurb about who we are and maybe a few items for members only. I also
am thinking about putting a web interface to my DX Spider node, so it could
be accessed from the web, as well as telnet and on 2 meters. I could just
add a couple of pages to my current site or we could acquire our own domain
name. Domain name registration is $10.95 a year through KA9FOX.

Hi Danny. I hope to stop by the November 14 meeting, but will have to leave
early for a wedding, so may miss the "business" part of the get-together. I
like both of your suggestions. I'll give you a donation on the 14th for
QSL.net. And thanks for offering to donate space on your web site for a
GRDX web page. I'm OK with your offer of pages on your web site. But if
the group decides to order our own domain name, I'll be glad to donate for
that.
Another possibility for the web page would be member DX "need lists" If you
do that, you might limit it to needs in the top 100 or top 50 needed DXCC
entities. The downside is that someone needs to maintain and update the
list. If we had a way to let each member update their own list, that would
be ideal. But I'm not sure there's an easy way to do that without some web
applet. And members could put contact information such as phone, text
message, and email on how (and during what hours!) they would like to be
contacted if one of their needs is on the air.
I'm looking forward to seeing the GRDX "gang" on November 14th.
Cliff, K0CA

If anyone needs Chesterfield Is. TX3A, they had a real good signal on 160
meters this morning. Worked them on first call at 1130z.
Also 17 meters has been excellent to Europe in the mornings. I have been
working Europe left and right on psk31 mode. Been lots of fun.

Another test message, please ignore! This one using Capital letters on G,
R, and D. Shouldn't matter, but I've seen web page addresses that are case
sensitive.

Another test - please ignore while Danny and I try to figure out why my
posts aren't being reflected! Danny, I changed a "topic Filter" setting in
the preferences to "yes" I do want posts that don't match any filter. Let's
see if this helps. That's the only setting I can see that might have been
wrong.
