[GPS_Standard] a parts setback

Hi Chris
I see that you have now got a correction for the LT1485 as a DIP part. The
8 pin DIP to 8 pin SOIC adapter plates are readily available from most
electronics retailers however.
A point regarding the RS232 converter, I used a Jupiter TU30-D1140, I found
that at times it would be nice to talk to the GPS via RS232 as well, so to
that end I installed a DPDT miniature switch on the back of my cabinet which
switches the data in/out lines from the Control Unit and the GPS, thus
enabling me to look at either unit with the computer. A more elegant
solution is to use a double RS232 converter using an XR222 chip, and 2 com
ports on the computer.

I really appreciate the Digi-Key BOM. My head starts to swim
when I get into the Digi-Key website.
One complaint:
The LTC1485 on the sample BOM turns out to be a surface mount part.
I'll either have to make some kind of adapter under my microscope
or go back to Digi-Key for the 8-DIP part. I should have looked closer
at the list.
I have most of the system-level parts gathered:
Resolution-T GPS,
GPS antenna,
RS-232 level converter,
10811 oscillator.
I am torn between rolling my own power supply or ripping the one out of the
nasty 5328A counter from whence came the OXO.
When I get the board populated I plan to do a bench test using bench
supplies
and see if it all is going to work. I may come back to the list for
help with a GPS timing amp if it turns out I need one.
