Hi Martein,
One -important- difference between them is that the newer 18f2221 has only 1 8-bit timer, while the older 18f2220 has two. I haven't looked at Bert's source code, but if he uses the second 8-bit timer, the firmware will (if ever possible) require a big design change.
If that's the case, probably the price difference is not worth the time it would take to port the code to the newer part.
