[GPS_Standard] Question regarding HP 5328A VRE OFFSET Option.

Dear Bert

     Thank you for all your service to the Radio Amateur community. I have a
request.

     I recently purchased on E-Bay a HP 5328A Universal Counter with Options
10,11,21, and 41.
It also has installed in the normal Option 30 or 31 space, a panel labeled
VRE OFFSET with
10 Turn Vernier Dial and toggle Polarity Switch. The VRE Input is on the
rear panel.

     I wonder if you can help me identify this unusual option (?) and how it
would have been
used. What does VRE stand for?

     This very neatly installed modification looks like it was factory
installed or equivalent.
The attached JPG file is a drawing of the circuit.

	Your help will be greatly appreciated.
