[GPS_Standard] New System Questions

Hello Bob,
Achieving a "lock" with the suggested parameter values is a good indication
that your system is operating properly. This does not necessarily indicates
that the system has reached optimum accuracy though. With a long Sampling
period (S), it may take a day or two to reach the sweet spot and track it.
In absence of a comparable or better accuracy reference, operating a
standard is more or less an act of faith. There is a clue that will indicate
that the system is in reliable state. If the DAC value barely moves over
several sampling periods, there is a good probability that everything is
optimal. Remember though that the OXCO may initially be in a re-trace phase
and the system will compensate regularly for that OCXO drift. So you would
see a constant DAC correction trend. This could last up to a week before the
OCXO really stabilizes. It is a good exercise to do the trend analysis using
the Serial port Logging feature of Montrol and a spreadsheet program's
graphics abilities. Because of this re-trace phenomenon, I recommend that
such standard be run on an Uninteruptible Power Supply.
Have fun!

Subject: [GPS_Standard] New System Questions
Hi Everybody;
Well I finally broke down and read the manual (Thanks Bert!) I discovered
the answers to my original questions and have a solid LOCK indication.
After reading the manual a few more times, I'm still a bit puzzled. How
can I tell how well the system is working?
I have set the parameters for my HP-10811 Osc. and the Oncore Receiver
from the manual and all seems well but, how well? What would be the
information reported in MonTrol that would tell me this?
Other than the above question, I'M REALLY HAPPY with the way the project
worked out!
Thanks Bert and others for help along the way!
Best regards, Bob K7hbg
